When she travelled back to her own village at Christmas, Lyna immediately investigated whether the children there were attending school and she discovered that in many ways the conditions in the village were worse than in the refugee camps. The children said, “We can’t wait to go to school.” But there was no school!

There was no building, no teachers, no desks and chairs, no school bags, no books, no pens or pencils, no coloured pens or paper, no storybooks, no toys and no school uniforms…. so she started fund raising to give these children a chance— a chance at life, a chance at education, and a chance at a future! When she returned to her village at Easter a miracle had happened! The community centre that the Waymaker Trust had been building for over a year was finished and as soon as it opened on April 19th it was immediately transformed into a school with more than 80 children eagerly waiting to start their lessons!
Her report and a big thank you to all the friends and supporters of the Trust is attached below. The WMT community centre has been fitted with solar power and in time it will also be used for health clinics and for women’s development and empowerment activities.
